Dentofacial Orthopedics
Dr. Townsend believes that orthodontics is about more than just straight teeth and at Chapel Hills Orthodontic Center that’s more than just a saying. Dr. Townsend’s training includes both Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
While orthodontics is all about tooth movement, dentofacial orthopedics involves the guidance of facial growth and development, which happens primarily during childhood. In both cases, special appliances are used. Sometimes orthopedic treatment may precede conventional braces, but often the two are accomplished at the same time.
Because Dr. Townsend is skilled in both areas, he is able to diagnose any misalignments in the teeth and jaw as well as the facial structure, and can create a custom treatment plan using both treatments.
