Meet the Orthodontist
One of the things that sets Chapel Hills Orthodontic Center apart is Dr. Townsend. He’s warm, friendly and has a great way with kids and adults alike. From the minute you first sit down with him you’ll notice the amazing amount of energy he brings to creating beautiful, healthy smiles – and he has that rare combination of experience (over 30 years) and a commitment to offering the very latest treatments and advancements available.
Before opening his private practice in Colorado Springs, Dr. Townsend had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force where he was the Special Consultant in Orthodontics to the USAF Assistant Surgeon General.He also served as the USAF Consultant in Orthodontics for Alaska and Europe. Additionally, he was Chairman of Orthodontics at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In that role, he assisted in the training of dentists in basic orthodontics and oral surgeons in the treatment and diagnosis of complex surgical orthodontic cases. He was a member of the Craniofacial Anomalies Board which provided treatment for patients with complex issues like cleft palates and cleft lips.
Once in private practice his record of service continued by traveling to Africa, China and Russia as a member of the People to People Ambassador Program in Orthodontics. He is one of the most experienced orthodontists using the Damon System in the entire United States and is an active member of several prestigious study clubs.
Dr. Townsend is a member of the American Dental Association, the Colorado Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists and the Colorado Springs Dental Society. He is a board certified orthodontic specialist, a distinction earned by less than 20% of all orthodontists in America. He also is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. He and his wife enjoy all of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer, especially when they get to share them with their family. Being an orthodontist has always been a pleasure and as a man who has seen the world he says he “can’t see himself doing anything else.”
